FAQs
1. What is your experience level and training (e.g., Alzheimer's or dementia care)?
Answer: We have extensive experience providing compassionate, non-medical care for seniors. Our team is specifically trained to support clients with memory care needs, including Alzheimer’s and dementia. We focus on creating a safe, familiar, and calming environment while maintaining the dignity and independence of your loved ones.
2. Are you CPR and first aid certified?
Answer: Yes, absolutely. The safety and well-being of our clients are our top priorities. We hold current and up-to-date CPR and First Aid certifications so we are always prepared to handle unexpected emergencies.
3. Can you provide references from past clients?
Answer: Yes, we certainly can. We have built strong relationships with many families in the Edmonton area. We would be more than happy to provide references from past and current clients upon request so you can feel completely confident in our care.
4. What is your availability, and do you have a minimum hourly requirement?
Answer: We offer flexible scheduling to meet the unique needs of your family, whether you need temporary respite care or ongoing daily support.
5. How will you communicate with family members regarding daily updates?
Answer: We believe in complete transparency to give families peace of mind. We will provide regular updates after our visits in the format that works best for you—whether that is via text message, phone call, email, or a communication logbook left at the home.
6. Does the agency conduct thorough background and driving checks?
Answer: Yes. Trust is the foundation of our business. We require comprehensive background checks, including a Vulnerable Sector Check (standard for senior care in Canada), as well as clean driver’s abstracts for anyone providing transportation services.
7. Are you bonded and insured?
Answer: Yes. A Helping Hand Services is fully licensed, bonded, and insured in Alberta. This ensures that your family and our caregivers are fully protected at all times.
8. Do you assist with transportation to appointments?
Answer: Yes, we provide safe and reliable transportation. Whether your loved one needs to attend a medical appointment, go grocery shopping, or simply wants to enjoy a social outing or a drive, we are happy to safely get them there and back.
9. Will you assist with light housekeeping or meal preparation?
Answer: Yes! A clean home and good nutrition are vital for well-being. We gladly assist with light housekeeping (such as doing laundry, washing dishes, and tidying up) and can prepare healthy, delicious meals tailored to any specific dietary needs.
10. How do you handle difficult behaviors or resistance to care?
Answer: We approach every situation with patience, empathy, and professional training. We understand that resistance—especially in clients with dementia—is often rooted in confusion, fear, or frustration. Instead of forcing care, we use gentle redirection techniques, focus on building trust, and adapt to the client’s mood to ensure they feel safe and respected.
